Editorial Methodology
Rankings curated by the editorial team at Reality Atlas.
How We Rate
Every listing on Reality Atlas receives an editorial score on a 1–10 scale. Scores are determined by our editorial team using a weighted combination of objective data and qualitative assessment. We evaluate each category using criteria specific to its domain, detailed below. Scores are reviewed and updated on a regular cadence to reflect new releases, pricing changes, and community feedback.
Hardware Rating Criteria
When rating VR headsets, AR glasses, smart glasses, and other XR hardware, we consider:

- Value for Money — How the device's capabilities compare to its price point relative to the market.
- Ecosystem & Content — Availability of apps, games, and developer tools on the platform.
- Build Quality & Comfort — Weight, ergonomics, materials, and suitability for extended use.
- Software & Updates — Quality of the operating system, frequency of firmware updates, and long-term support.
- Innovation — Unique features, new technologies, or meaningful advances over predecessors.
Agency Rating Criteria
When rating XR development agencies and studios, we evaluate:
- Portfolio Quality — Depth, diversity, and technical sophistication of completed XR projects.
- Client Reviews — Aggregated ratings and testimonials from verified clients across third-party platforms.
- Team Size & Expertise — Number of XR specialists, relevant certifications, and years of experience.
- Technology Stack — Breadth of supported platforms, engines, and frameworks (Unity, Unreal, WebXR, etc.).
- Industry Focus — Domain expertise in specific verticals such as healthcare, manufacturing, retail, or training.
- Communication & Process — Responsiveness, project management methodology, and transparency.

Independence & Ethics
Reality Atlas maintains strict editorial independence. Our ratings and rankings are never influenced by advertising relationships, sponsorship deals, or listing tier status. Companies may pay for premium listing visibility (such as enhanced profiles or featured placement), but these commercial arrangements have no effect on editorial scores or ranking position. We clearly distinguish between editorial content and sponsored placements wherever they appear on the site.
If a member of our editorial team has a material conflict of interest with a listed entity, they recuse themselves from that evaluation. We are committed to transparency and welcome questions about our process at any time.
Updates
Ratings and data are reviewed continuously. Hardware scores are reassessed when significant firmware updates, price changes, or competing products launch. Agency scores are updated quarterly based on new client reviews and portfolio additions. Market statistics are refreshed as new data becomes available from primary sources.
