This Week in XR โ€” Week 11, 2026

Hey XR fans โ€” Welcome to the very first issue of This Week in XR. MWC just wrapped, Google finally put its Android XR smart glasses in real people's hands, Pico is gunning for Apple Vision Pro with some absurd display specs, Meta quietly dropped a software upgrade that makes Quest smoother, and X-Plane is coming to Vision Pro at 4K/120fps. A lot happened โ€” let's get into it.

Hardware News

PICO PROJECT SWAN , ByteDance's Pico confirmed Project Swan specs: 4,000 PPI micro-OLED displays (exceeding Vision Pro), dual-chip design with 2ร— compute vs Quest 3, and a new Pico OS 6 built for spatial computing workflows. Targeting enterprise: virtual offices, factories, training. Source: UploadVR (uploadvr.com)

APPLE VISION PRO GETS M5 PRO & MAX , Apple confirmed this week that its new M5 Pro and M5 Max chips are coming to Vision Pro. Built on the same "super core" architecture as M5 in iPad Pro and MacBook Air, the upgrade brings faster GPU and neural engine performance for spatial workloads. Source: Apple Newsroom

X-PLANE 12 ON VISION PRO AT 4K/120FPS , visionOS 26.4 supports NVIDIA CloudXR 6.0, enabling X-Plane 12 to stream wirelessly from Mac/Windows/Linux to Vision Pro at up to 4K/120fps. ARKit image detection maps physical yokes/throttles into the sim. Source: 9to5Mac

Software & Apps

META FRAMESYNC OS UPGRADE โ€” Meta is replacing Phase Sync with FrameSync, a new statistical frame-timing algorithm for Horizon OS. It predicts rendering load more accurately, resulting in fewer dropped frames and noticeable reduction in visual hitches. Every Quest headset gets smoother VR automatically. Source: UploadVR

MLB OPENING DAY VR ON QUEST โ€” Meta Quest will stream live MLB games starting Opening Day, March 25, 2026. Free Game of the Day lets users sample the experience before committing. It's the most mainstream sports VR deployment yet, with a user base of 14,000+ Quest 3S reviews on Walmart alone. Source: Meta Blog

Funding & Deals

No major XR-specific funding rounds announced this week. Watch for deals out of GDC 2026 and follow-on investment tied to Project Swan and Android XR ecosystem build-out.

Enterprise

GOOGLE ANDROID XR SMART GLASSES AT MWC โ€” Google gave first public hands-on demos of Android XR smart glasses at MWC 2026. Gemini AI provides contextual navigation by reading physical posters and signs. XR Fact of the Week

The human eye perceives about 60 pixels per degree (PPD) at peak visual acuity. Apple Vision Pro delivers ~34 PPD. Pico's Project Swan targets 45 PPD at peak center. We're closing in on retinal-resolution displays , and we might hit that threshold before 2030.
