**Meta unveils VR Glasses, its lightest headset ever, for $1,299** At Connect 2026, Meta officially announced its new "VR Glasses" (previously codenamed Project Phoenix), a roughly 100-gram device that moves compute, battery, and storage to a tethered puck. Priced at $1300, they have 2.4K micro-OLED displays, weigh 100 grams, and are powered by a tethered puck with Qualcomm's Snapdragon Reality Elite chipset. **Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 launches same day at $449 with Aviator frames** Meta's mainstream camera glasses got their first proper refresh in two years. Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) went on sale on September 23 from $449 in the US, with up to nine hours of battery, a 12 MP camera and a new action button. Gen 3 comes in 27 color and lens combinations across three styles: Aviator, Wayfarer, and Zena, a new cat-eye frame. **Snap's $2,195 Specs officially go on sale** After a decade of iteration, Snap's consumer AR glasses finally launched. Snap began selling its AR-enabled Specs glasses on Sept. 16 for $2,195, marking the consumer launch of its standalone mixed reality device. The glasses have a 51-degree field of view and use in-lens overlays and artificial intelligence-powered elements for digital interaction. This week Snap's CEO also did a live on-stage demo, and Snap announced that Specs will have a cross-platform AI agent and an optional cellular charging case for on-the-go connectivity. **Meta introduces Ray-Ban Meta Audio, its first camera-free smart glasses** For buyers spooked by embedded cameras, Meta finally has an answer. Ray-Ban Meta Audio - Meta's first pair of camera-free glasses. They will ship on October 13, and can be pre-ordered starting at $349. **Beat Saber's biggest update ever, "Flux," brings hand tracking in Spring 2027** The genre-defining VR rhythm game is being reinvented for the controller-free era. Beat Saber will get a huge update to go with the newly announced Meta VR Glasses next spring, headlined by Flux, a brand new game mode. The update will also add full hand tracking support, a first-ever rewards system, and an enhanced single-player campaign. The "Flux" update launches with 35 songs from the original soundtrack as well as the Extras and Anniversary packs, including music by Lindsey Stirling, DragonForce, Camellia, and Jaroslav Beck. **Meta Muse AI agent expands to glasses, Mac, and third-party retailers** Meta's AI push is now a full assistant platform. There was also a good amount of time spent on Muse and what it could do; while it had previously been revealed that it could make purchases on your behalf, at Meta Connect it was announced that it would work with a host of retailers, including Walmart and Instacart. **Big-name games coming to Meta VR Glasses and Quest** Meta stacked its content pipeline. New titles include Cardmada, Dice Throne Digital, Dragon Grove, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies, Supernatural, Tetris Effect: Mixed Realities, and Two Point Hospital. **Immersive Arts secures £8.5 million for UK XR creators** A rare piece of grant news that isn't a startup megaround. Immersive Arts has secured more than £8.5 million to continue supporting artists working in immersive technologies for the next three years. **Xbox Cloud Gaming coming to Meta VR Glasses, but with new limits** A partnership rather than a check, but material for Meta's ecosystem. You'll be able to stream titles through Xbox Cloud Gaming, though Microsoft is imposing new time limits on that service. Beyond those, it was a relatively quiet week for major XR venture rounds, with attention concentrated on Meta Connect.

**Meta Ray-Ban Display expands availability, adds hearing enhancement** Meta pushed its display-equipped smart glasses deeper into practical use cases. It announced some updates for Meta Ray-Ban Display while making those smart glasses more broadly available. In addition, Meta revealed a hearing assistance feature for its glasses along with the biggest changes yet for Beat Saber and a raft of entertainment content that's coming to the VR ecosystem. Hearing enhancement is eligible for HSA/FSA reimbursement. Check your plan to confirm eligibility. The HSA/FSA angle explicitly opens a channel for enterprise and healthcare buyers. **Meta VR Glasses positioned for productivity, adds DisplayPort input** Enterprise buyers get a new lightweight option for virtual monitors. For the first time for a Meta standalone device, you can also plug in any USB-C DisplayPort device to the puck, including a phone, laptop. Combined with multiple virtual monitors, that positions VR Glasses as a real productivity tool for knowledge workers. **MicroLED and AR/VR Connect Eindhoven (September 24 to 25)** The Netherlands hosted one of Europe's most important display-focused XR conferences this week. Beat Games, the Prague-based Meta subsidiary behind Beat Saber, stole the spotlight this week with the announcement of Flux, arguably the biggest creative reinvention of a VR game since the medium's inception. Flux is the biggest addition since Beat Saber's official full release in 2019. This new single-player experience builds on Beat Saber's slice-and-dice gameplay by using hand tracking to make your hands your weapons. The team is also redesigning the game's logo for the first time in nearly a decade and adding a progression and rewards system. Beat Games matters because Beat Saber remains the single most successful piece of VR content ever made, and its willingness to abandon controllers entirely signals where the whole industry believes user input is going.
