Apple Vision Pro Battery Life: Real-World Performance
Apple Vision Pro delivers about 2 hours of battery life from its external battery pack. Here is real-world performance data, what drains it fastest, and tips to extend sessions.
Battery Quick Reference
| Use Type⇅ | Estimated Duration⇅ |
|---|---|
| Active gaming / immersive apps | ~2 hours |
| Mixed reality work / productivity | ~2–2.5 hours |
| Video playback (Environments) | ~2.5 hours |
| Passthrough / light browsing | ~2.5–3 hours |
| Tethered via USB-C (continuous) | Unlimited |
How the Battery System Works
Vision Pro ships with a 3166 mAh external battery pack that connects via a proprietary magnetic cable to the headset. The battery stays in a pocket or on a desk - it does not attach to the headset itself. This design keeps headset weight down but introduces a tether cable. The battery is not user-replaceable in the field without a spare unit.
Charging the Battery
- Charge via included USB-C power adapter (30W recommended)
- Full charge takes approximately 2 hours
- Battery percentage is displayed in visionOS settings
- Using the headset while charging via USB-C is supported and provides continuous runtime
Tips for Extending Battery Life
- Enable Auto Brightness - the micro-OLED display is the largest power draw
- Use Environments in passthrough-dominant mode rather than fully immersive
- Reduce display brightness in dimmer settings
- Use Persona for FaceTime rather than immersive environments
- A 20,000mAh USB-C power bank with 30W output can extend runtime by 3–4 additional battery cycles
Known Limitations
The 2–2.5 hour active battery life is the most common user complaint with Vision Pro. For full workday use, a powered USB-C hub or direct wall outlet connection is necessary. Apple has not announced a higher-capacity battery pack; third-party solutions with standard USB-C exist but require an adapter.
